Sediments as a Source of Iron, Manganese, Cobalt and Nickel to Continental Shelf Waters (Louisiana, Gulf of Mexico)

چکیده
Continental shelf sediments are a key source of trace metals to the ocean. In this study, we investigate impact sedimentary processes on water column concentrations iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni) at five stations Louisiana continental slope, Gulf Mexico. The highest metal were observed close seafloor most nearshore station (water depth 16 m), with present in particulate form. This enrichment bottom is likely combined effect input suspended matter from Mississippi/Atchafalaya Rivers and, for Mn, Co, Ni, benthic release sediments. While was dominant carrier Fe Mn waters slope regions, Co Ni nearly exclusively dissolved Hence, lateral transport decoupled that Mn. Concentrations generally decreased while those sediment increased. suggests an increased retention deposited distance coast, linked decrease organic associated reductive processes. offshore decline mobilization typical river-dominated margins where coast.

Sediment distributions in deep sea influence the benthic community structure and thus play an important role in shaping the marine ecosystem. Several studies on sediment characteristics had been conducted in South China Sea (SCS), but only limited to coastal areas of regions within SCS territories. Therefore, this study was carried out to analyze the benthic sediment profile in an area beyond 1...

− Using time series analyses, some physical parameters of the continental shelf waters of the Gulf of Guinea were examined. Analysis of coastal sea surface temperatures from Ghana and Ivory Coast, and offshore sea surface temperatures from the Gulf of Guinea clearly shows spatial and inter-annual patterns of cooling in coastal waters of West Africa. The behaviour of the decomposed trend of coas...

STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE The northern Gulf of Mexico (i.e., U.S. Gulf of Mexico) continental shelf bottlenose dolphin stock inhabits waters from 20 to 200 m deep in the northern Gulf from the U.S.-Mexican border to the Florida Keys (Figure 1). Both “coastal” and “offshore” ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins occur in the Gulf of Mexico (Hersh and Duffield 1990; LeDuc and Curry 1998). T...
